Steven Alker wins TimberTech Championship, continues outlandish start to senior career

November 8, 2021 by admin Leave a Comment

The eerie, unfathomable growth of Steven Alker from PGA Tour Champions outsider to a major force in senior golf was concluded on Sunday at Boca Raton, Fla. The fifty-year-old New Zealand native won the TimberTech Championship by two strokes over the reigning U.S. senior Open Champion Jim Furyk and fast-closing Miguel Angel Jimenez.

He was slacking off on his Korn Ferry Tour until he was 50 on July 28 and doing what he calls the “hard yards” in his own words, Alker had been a frequent visit to Champions Tour leader boards. He finally won his first win since winning the fourth of his Korn Ferry titles at the 2014 Cleveland Open.

“I think it’s being built up,” said Alker, who made his professional debut following Monday’s qualifying at the Boeing Classic in mid-August and had six consecutive top-10 finishes to be a participant at the next event. “I’ve been getting a chance as well … there are many top-10s and then you’re into the thick of it and you just want to score the win. It’s not that top-10s don’t have any merit. You just need the win and you’re thankful that I persevered today.”

With a one-stroke advantage before the hole that is a par-5 in The Old Course at Broken Sound, Alker finished off with a four-under-par 68 by making one final birdie to beat second-round co-leaders Furyk as well as Tim Petrovic. Alker had only played three times playing on the PGA Tour and never finished higher than 17th, shot 17-under 199.

Furyk looking to reduce significantly the lead of Bernhard Langer in the long-running Charles Schwab Cup points race He stumbled on the greens for putting and finished with a score of 71. Jimenez was able to make seven birdies in a 66 to finish the low round of the day.

Petrovic struggling to shoot 74 following an early birdie staked his to a lead of two strokes and he ended up five strokes back at 212. He was tied for fourth place alongside Ernie Els, who shot 71.

With a final-round score of 69, Langer was T-11 and maintained his lead in the standings of points heading towards this week’s Charles Schwab Cup Championship, the final game on the extended senior schedule that spanned over two years as a result of this pandemic. The season’s finale will be held in Phoenix, Ariz., at Phoenix Country Club which is where Langer will attempt to be victorious in this year’s Charles Schwab Cup for a sixth time.

Ryder Cup postponed and returns expecting ‘full fan experience.’

June 25, 2021 by admin Leave a Comment

“We worked with the industry last year to postpone it for a year. We have every hope and every desire and we’re working very hard to make it an absolute full fan experience.” America’s PGA C.E.O., Waugh said in a news conference at Ocean Course.

The two most significant properties of America’s PGA plummeted due to the adverse Covid-19 Pandemic. All golf events, tournaments, and games have been hit since. However, with the measures in place, it is expected to recover fully come September 24th-26th at the Ryder Cup, Whistling Straits.

Kiawah Island hosts the 2021 PGA with an announced capacity of 10,000 fans every day. Going onwards with the easing of Covid-19 restrictions, expect more people on the golf courses.

The Ryder Cup is a massive moneymaker for PGA and the European tour. It holds up to a total capacity of up to 40,000 fans each day. The plan this year is to welcome noise-a fully packed house party.

Every golf fan hopes that September will be one of the most remarkable events in golf and a great sort of exclamation point to the end of the Corona Virus so that lives and golf go back to normal. The United States, for the sake of the 2021 Ryder Cup, hopes to be able to pull it off.

‘Full fan experience at the 2021 Ryder Cup’- American P.G.A.

May 30, 2021 by admin Leave a Comment

“We’re working obviously with the state and local governments to have all those conversations. But our plan is to have a Ryder Cup in a way- have it be the greatest Ryder Cup in history. I think the world as we’ve seen is ready to have a party.”  Said Waugh, America’s P.G.A. C.E.O.

The P.G.A. of America received over 10,000 fans daily to the Kiawah Island. The significant number remains short of the maximum capacity of the Ocean’s course. The C.E.O. of American P.G.A. promised a packed house welcome to golf fans for the Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits.

Professional players like Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka expressed reservations about playing the biennial match last year without spectators. It was then postponed, returning in 2021 with a blast. Having presented its Covid-19 protocols to the authorities, America’s P.G.A. through Waugh and other leaders expressed high hopes to the dawning of a brim capacity Ryder Cup.

Michael O’Reilly, golf operations Director, said earlier in the year that brim capacity at Destination Kohler is about 40,000 golf fans each day. Fast up is the 2021 Ryder Cup from September 24th to 26th, with Team Europe as the defending champions. The real question is, are you ready to party?

The Ryder Cup concept from the 1920s isn’t good enough for golf anymore- Sapakoff

May 30, 2021 by admin Leave a Comment

“It’ll be great boss: We’ll tell everyone this is the U.S. versus England. Well, Scotland and Ireland too. Maybe a few people from Europe but no Asians. No Africans. Definitely no South and Central Americans or Mexicans. Of course, no Canadians. Whaddaya think?”  Sapakoff’s words. Consider a marketing pitch designed to capture the global interest in the most prominent team event in golf, and it sounds like such. It brings the Ryder Cup to mind.

The same old buzz about the upcoming U.S. vs. Europe clash come September 21-26 at Whistling Straits dominated the recent PGA Championship. All this after the Covid-19 pandemic that united the globe as one. When they talk of the Ryder Cup is dutifully international. It backslides from the dully growing sport’s diversity. Logic demands an International event to be more inclusive, better, and wiser. Better and wiser by fixing the team display that prohibits the world’s people of color.

There has been a clear demonstration from nationalities to cross the demographic lines for Unity. Both sides of the team, the U.S. and Europe, are flexible with the status quo. Ask anyone from golf fans to the Presidents themselves about the Presidents Cup and be slapped with silence. We need a revised Ryder Cup that bears golf’s recent outreach efforts. Golf only wins with a more inclusive version.
